Use our handy template to start writing your own gratitude journal in 5 simple steps and be well on your way to feeling more appreciative of the little things in your life!
Step 1: Create a note on your phone or laptop, or use our handy template, so that you can easily read and add to it whenever you need inspiration.
Step 2: Start to list any person, pet, event, experience, or opportunity that you can think of. Even if you remember something positive from years ago, jot it down! This will help you get in the routine of recognizing the best parts of your life.
Step 3: Whenever you experience a moment of appreciation, add it to your journal. Once you have a few entries, you can organize it any way you like: by date, theme, or even by the way it made you feel, e.g. happy, confident, fortunate, etc.
Step 4: Take some time every day, as little as five minutes at the same time, to think about something you appreciate to add to your journal. After a while, it’ll become a part of your routine, helping you to appreciate the little things in life naturally. Include even the most seemingly small occurrences, like receiving a nice text from a friend, getting a cuddle from your dog or cat, or enjoying the refreshing fall weather.
Step 5: Whenever you are feeling low, discouraged, or lonely, look back at your gratitude journal entries to be reminded of a time you felt particularly happy, appreciative, or inspired.
