Assessments

Assessments

All of the assessments conducted in Return to Work Services are based on the biopsychosocial model. This means that we examine the medical aspects of the disability; the way the individual thinks and feels about the disability and the impact that it has on them and; the social factors (particularly workplace-related factors) that impact the disability and the return to work.

Clinical Interview

The clinical interview is the cornerstone of all assessments in Return to Work Services. Through this interview, the clinician develops an understanding of the biopsychosocial factors that are play and that can positively or negatively influence recovery.

Testing

We build on the clinical interview by conducting testing. Depending on the purpose of the assessment, we administer different batteries of tests. In cases where the focus of the assessment is on corroborating a diagnosis, our psychologists administer psychometric assessment. When we need to understand functional abilities and limitations, psychologists and occupational therapists administer an array of validated testing instruments.

Inpatient Assessment

The most robust of the assessments we provide is a multidisciplinary inpatient assessment. Over the course of several weeks, the client is assessed on a longitudinal basis by a team comprised of psychiatrists, psychologists, occupational therapists, addictionologists and other health professionals as required.
